A few weeks ago, a friend of mine said he was going over to Sweden for the day and invited me to join him. I’ve been to Malmö and Lund multiple times (and still enjoy visiting both cities), but I fancied something different. Skanör-Falsterbo, which is close to the bottom of Sweden, looked like a nice place to escape the 17ºC “heat” in Copenhagen… so, after a quick haircut, we got in a car and went across the Øresund Bridge.

I’ll be honest: I didn’t actually expect much from my trip to Skanör-Falsterbro, but was pleasantly surprised. This area consisting of two towns was the perfect day trip from Copenhagen and felt miles away from the Danish capital and Malmö, both of which are less than an hour away.
Here’s a guide to Skanör-Falsterbo if you fancy a day trip off the beaten path in Sweden, and you’ll also find it helpful if you plan to stick around for a night.
How to Get to Skanör-Falsterbo
The easiest way to get to Skanör-Falsterbo is by car. It’s just 50 minutes away from Copenhagen and around 35 minutes from Malmö. To cross the Øresund Bridge, you’ll need to pay a fee. One-way ticket prices are available here.

Skanör-Falsterbo is also reachable from Copenhagen and Malmö by public transport, and this is a more cost-effective option. The journey will take about an hour and 20 minutes from Copenhagen and an hour from Malmö. It’s quicker to change at Hyllie station and get the 300 bus to Skanör. I’d recommend buying a 24-hour pass that includes travel to and from Denmark in the Skånetrafiken app (iOS and Android). The ticket costs 360 SEK (c. $33).

What We Did in Skanör-Falsterbo
One of the best things to do in Skanör-Falsterbo is simply walk along the coast and around the harbour in Skanör. You’ll find various colourful beach huts here, which may remind you of the huts in Bournemouth if you’ve ever visited the UK. In the summer, I can imagine that the beachfront area gets quite crowded with sunbathers.

Falsterbo Lighthouse, which dates back to the 18th century, was also worth checking out. On top of that, we had some excellent seafood at Fiskehuset – which is close to the harbourfront area in Skanör.
Right next to the restaurant, there’s also a nice little spot for some ice cream. My advice? Get the banana split flavour at the very least.

Other Activities in Skanör-Falsterbo
Part of the comprehensive Skåneleden trail goes through this area, and it’s also a great region for cycling in the summer.
Skanör-Falsterbo is also famous for its birdwatching opportunities, though my friend and I didn’t do that on this occasion. Over 300 bird species pass through the area.
