If you thought Denmark was all just as flat as a pancake, Møns Klint will challenge your preconceived notions. Turquoise waters and luscious woodland surround the iconic cliffs, and no summer trip to Denmark is complete without coming to this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The island of Møn and its cliffs are surprisingly close to Copenhagen, meaning it’s a fantastic day trip from the Danish capital. But to enjoy this area’s beauty, it’s worth staying overnight or for a few days. Having both been to Møn on a day trip and stayed for a weekend, I figured that I’m pretty qualified to put together this guide.
Today, you’ll get all the practical information you need to plan a memorable summer trip to one of Denmark’s most beautiful spots. We’ll cover how to get to Møns Klint, plus what you can do on the island of Møn and much more.
How to Get to Møns Klint From Copenhagen 🚗
Møns Klint is around two hours from Copenhagen by car. The quickest way to get here is by travelling southbound via the E47 motorway.
Getting to Møns Klint without a car is quite difficult. Møn doesn’t have a train station, so your best option would be to get the train to Vordingborg before then travelling onwards to Stege—the main town on Møn. Then, get the 667 bus to Klintholm Havn before changing for 678 to Geocenter Møns Klint. I’ve never made the journey to Møn via public transport, but I can imagine the number of changes being quite frustrating. The entire trip can take anywhere from three-and-a-half to five hours, depending on waiting times and transport availability.
You can read more about public transport on the Sydsjælland & Møn tourism board website.
Visiting Møns Klint: Practical Information 🥾
Is It Free to Visit Møns Klint?
Yes—it’s completely free to visit Møns Klint. However, you will need to pay for parking if you want to leave your car at the GeoCenter.
Parking at Møns Klint
You can park your car at GeoCenter Møns Klint. Parking costs 45 Danish Kroner, and you can pay at the parking metre by entering your licence plate number. Note that you’ll need to pay by card.
Getting to the Beach From Møns Klint
From GeoCenter Møns Klint, you can easily reach the pebble beach at Møns Klint via the staircase. There are 497 steps, and the incline will require a reasonable level of fitness to do it all in one go.

You can also use the benches along the way if you need to catch your breath.
Safety at Møns Klint
Rockfalls and landslides can occur, so it’s important that you understand the risk beforehand. If you’re on the upper parts, you should stick to the footpaths and avoid going near the edge of the cliff.
Considering that other people may be on the beach below, you should also use common sense and not throw things off the edge. I assumed that you were smart enough to know that as you’re reading this website, but it’s worth mentioning anyway 🙂.

As you saw earlier with the stairs, storms can occur on Møn. Checking the weather forecast in advance is a good idea, and you should avoid going down the stairs when the weather is adverse. However, this is more likely to happen in the autumn and winter.
To access the beach at Møns Klint, you’ll sometimes need to go through water from the stairs. The surface beneath can be quite slippery, so you should move slowly when that is the case. Again, use common sense here. Don’t go to the beach if it doesn’t look safe or if you get a bad gut feeling. You can check the expected tides at Møns Klint here.
What to Wear for a Trip to Møns Klint in the Summer
It’s a good idea to wear sturdy walking shoes when visiting Møns Klint, along with comfortable outdoor clothing. It’s also a good idea to bring a waterproof outer layer in case it rains.
Your packing list for Møns Klint doesn’t need to be too strenuous; wear what you normally would for a walk in the countryside.
Møns Klint Summer Weather 🌞
You can expect the summer temperature at Møns Klint to be around 17-20ºC in the daytime, and between 9ºC and 13ºC at night. It was quite windy both times that I went—but to be honest, the breeze can be quite nice if it’s warm.
Like everywhere else in Denmark, rain can occur year-round. I’ve been lucky on both of my trips, which were in July and August respectively, and have had sunshine for pretty much the whole time.

Other Things to Do on Møn 🎒
While Møns Klint steals many of the headlines, the island of Møn has plenty of activities that make it perfect for a summer getaway. Here are some other things you can do if you want to linger around for longer.
Check Out Stege
Stege is the main town on Møn, and it’s worth spending half a day wandering its streets and browsing the local shops. It’s the best place on the island to get some food, and it’ll probably also be your first stop when you arrive.

Stargazing
Møns Klint is one of the best places in Denmark to admire the night sky, and the Milky Way is visible during the latter parts of the summer. If you want to see stars on Møn, you should come in late July or August; the sun is normally too high above the horizon after sunset in June.
If you want to visit Møn at other points during the year, you have the chance to see the Northern Lights (though your chances are still higher if you go to Northern Norway, Sweden, Finland or anywhere in Iceland). During the bright June nights, you can spot noctilucent clouds.

Cycling Around Møns Klint
Møn, like most of Denmark, is fantastic for cycling in the summer. Many roads have bike lanes, and the traffic is normally not too excessive even if there aren’t. The island has several routes to try; to rent a bike, try Fri BikeShop in Stege.
Where to Eat on Møn 😋
Møn has a reasonable selection of places to eat, and the one I would recommend above all others is Restaurant Det Gamle Bryghus in Stege. Here, you can try various smørrebrød variations—along with a number of excellent burgers. You normally don’t need to reserve a table, but you can if you feel like that would be necessary.

At Møns Klint, you can eat in the GeoCenter. Lunch is available, but I haven’t tried anything and therefore can’t comment. I can, however, recommend the ice cream.
Staying Overnight on Møn 😋
Møn is a great place for camping, and I’d recommend staying at Camp Møns Klint. You can bring your own tent or campervan, while it’s also possible to rent cabins if you’d prefer.
The campsite has showers and cooking facilities, along with all kinds of fun activities.
Prices vary depending on your accommodation preferences and when you visit. You can get an overview of these differing costs here.
Møns Klint to Stevns Klint 🛣️
Before leaving Denmark, you should also consider visiting Stevns Klint—especially if you’re driving back to Copenhagen. In my opinion, the rock formations on Stevns Klint look even more beautiful than what you’ll see on Møn.
Stevns Klint, is an important place for fossils. You can also enjoy kayaking and several other activities in the summer.

Stevns Klint is an hour and a half from Møns Klint by car. If you want to visit from Copenhagen instead, it’s just over an hour away.
