The beautiful Old Town is almost certainly one of your first thoughts, and it’s where most tourists spend the bulk of their time in the Estonian capital. You may also have thought about the numerous high-tech companies that have given Tallinn its reputation as a hot startup hub—even on a frigid February day.

What probably didn’t cross your mind, however, was Belgian cuisine. As for New Belgian food? Perhaps even less so.

To be truthful, it wasn’t on my itinerary before visiting for the fifth time, either. But one evening, we were looking for somewhere new to eat. It needed to be off-beat and interesting; Bruxx promised to fit both of those needs.

Dare I say, Bruxx is the best Belgian food I’ve had anywhere. The concept is super interesting, too, and you should definitely try it out when you visit Tallinn.

Trying New Belgian Food in Tallinn

This restaurant was our big splurge in Tallinn; we came here on our final night before heading on to Tartu the following day. As a side note, Tartu is also well worth visiting

At Bruxx, we shared three courses. We picked two starters, two mains, and one dessert to have between us. On top of that, we had some really good mocktails. Both of us rarely drink, and it was nice to have something that still tasted like a treat. If you’re going to get anything, make it the Virgin Marsala.

Of course, Belgium is synonymous with beer. So, if you want to try Belgian beer, this is a great place to do so. Bruxx also has its own brand of beer if you want something more unique.

First up were the starters. And of course, waffles were on the menu—but not as you know them. We had potato waffles with duck and cherry gel, and I’ll be totally honest, it was not a combination I ever would’ve thought about putting together. Nonetheless, it worked.

In addition to the duck and waffles, we also had salmon croquettes. Let’s be real, croquettes are *always* a good idea. And I can confirm that these were also excellent. Everything on the menu looked really good, but I doubt we’d have finished everything—despite our best efforts—if we had ordered one of everything.

Next up was the mains. These weren’t as fancy as the appetizers, but I won’t lie to you, I was just craving a really nice burger. I had watched as my girlfriend had one at a previous place we went to in Tallinn, and I felt like it was now time to satisfy that craving.

The burger was really good. I like mine well-done (same with steak; this is the best way to have it, and that’s an objective truth 🙂). The fries were also nice. Meanwhile, my girlfriend had salmon and potatoes. Definitely the more adult choice, but I digress. Both were very good. Vegetarian main dishes, such as a Beyond Meat burger, are also available if you don’t eat meat.

We hadn’t eaten much that day, so I was very much ready for dessert. And I won’t lie to you, this might well have been the highlight. Another waffle was on the table, and they clearly understood my obsession with pistachios because that was also included. On top of that, we had some vanilla ice cream served.

It tasted a bit fancier than the waffles you’ll find in Belgium at an ordinary stall, but that’s hardly surprising. Both are good, of course, and I still recommend visiting Belgium to try them for yourself. This dessert was excellent, though, and I’d have happily had another.

A Unique Concept in Tallinn’s Rotermann Quarter

Bruxx is located in the Rotermann Quarter, which itself is one of Tallinn’s most interesting districts. I said to my girlfriend that if I ever lived in the Estonian capital, this would be my choice. We stayed in this neighborhood at the Metropol Spa Hotel on our Baltic trip in summer 2025, and it’s full of shops, restaurants, and great bakeries.

You’ll find the restaurant on the edge of the quarter. It’s spread across multiple floors, and while it feels fancy, it simultaneously brings out Belgium’s laid-back atmosphere. As we were eating here, the first thought that popped into my head was “I think it might be time to book another trip to Belgium, not gonna lie”.

Despite being somewhat upscale, the restaurant was pretty chilled in terms of dress code. Moreover, the staff were polite but not over-the-top.

The Culinary Highlight of Our Tallinn Trip

When we took the ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn, I had some castles and nice photos in mind for this part of the trip. Belgian cuisine didn’t even remotely cross my mind. But I’m glad we spontaneously looked for something unique while in Estonia, because this was one of our top finds in Tallinn.

Bruxx is like your well-dressed friend who also doesn’t take himself too seriously. The appetizers were a fantastic start, and the quality went all the way through to dessert. This was our most expensive meal in Tallinn, but the splurge was worthwhile. I recommend coming here as a treat, too. You can easily book a table in advance on the website. It’s also possible to see the food and drink menus online, giving you more of an idea of what you want when you arrive. While you’re here, dedicate some time to the Rotermann Quarter in general, too.
